Roadmap
Departure from Bordeaux at 10 o’clock.
The trip will open with a tour of the marvellous Château d’Yquem – renowned the world over – and listed as a historical monument. You will then taste three of their vintages.
Château d’Yquem is the most famous white fortified wine in the world.
You will definitely remember this taste-bud party!
Lunch will be served at the heart of the village of Sauternes, in a warm, thoroughly charming restaurant.
On the menu, the great classics of French gastronomy: foie gras, scallops, beef fillet…
A tour and a wine tasting at Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey will follow – owned by Sylvio Denz, a Swiss entrepreneur, art (and wine) enthusiast and collector – notably pieces by René Lalique, the great Art nouveau jewellery designer and master glassmaker – who created the house’s bottles and carafes.
This splendid estate produces great classical Sauternes from very rich harvests.
After these few highly-charged hours, you’ll then be able to enjoy a perfectly relaxing, sensual moment at your hotel spa, where vinotherapists will provide you with exceptional treatment, with great anti-oxidant and anti-aging properties.
Dinner will take place in a Bordeaux restaurant, whose two-star chef offers a very tempting menu, focused on the produce of the Aquitaine terroir: Aquitaine caviar, Noir de Bigorre ham, Landes fattened chicken… and succulent desserts. A fine, refined cuisine.
First stop, Château Pichon Baron. The edifice is one of the most impressive in the Médoc.
The domain was founded in 1694 by Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville. It was in 1855, with world’s fair, that the wine became a 2nd Grand Cru Classé.
This estate’s wine is, today, among the best-reputed in Pauillac.
You will then enjoy lunch at Château Cordeillan-Bages, in a decor enhanced with works of art, where a menu has been constructed by starred chef Julian Lefebvre– a delicious mix of produce from the sea and from the land, ending in chocolate sweetness.
You will then have the honour of visiting the unmissable Château Mouton Rothschild, a well-reputed winegrowing estate in the Médoc, which produces one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious wines.
Owned by the English branch of the Rothschild family since 1853, it was promoted to the rank of premier grand cru classé in 1973.
Art-lovers will have their curiosity sharpened by the labels – produced by some of the greatest masters (Picasso, Miro, Chagall…), including several contemporary artists.
In this ideal setting, the sampling of several of these great wines will be a delight.
There will then be a stop at Château Pédesclaux, where the magnificent cellars – by Jean Michel Wilmotte – show the owners’ will to increase the subtlety and precision of their craft, while still remaining dedicated to excellence.
As the crowning ornament of this day, you will dine at la Grand’Vigne, set in a sumptuous XVIIIth century orange grove. The twice-starred chef Nicolas Masse will be ready to welcome you.
The day will commence with a tour of a château up to the standard of XVIIIth century grandeur, where you will share a moment of true French living. You will discover the spectacle of the vats, the barrel cellars and the Orangery, where you will be able to enjoy a commentated tasting of the house wines.
You will then be sampling the creative cuisine of Ronan Kervarrec, two-star chef at the restaurant Table de Plaisance. He superbly combines his Breton origins, his southern experience and the Aquitaine territory. Ocean and land in their purest expression.
Then will follow a visit of Château Canon La Gaffelière founded during the XVIIth century on the ruins of a medieval leper-house.
The Château is, today, at the height of the Grands Crus Classés.
You will sample a wine with a timeless style, coupled with a great elegance.
You will finally be free to explore the town of Saint-Emilion, accompanied by a guide. No fewer than 12 monuments tell the town’s story.
The medieval town is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
You will hear, amongst others, the tale of the monk Emilion, a man of compassion whose good name spread far beyond the valley. A fascinating stroll…
Return to Bordeaux for 7pm.
